CTA Electric Bus Charger Station Infrastructure
Start/Scheduled Date of Completion:
July 2018 - March 2020
SQN's Role on Project:
Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, Cost Estimator
The Chicago Transit Authority will be procuring a new fleet of electric buses, and will construct new en-route charging stations to support service on the #66 Chicago Avenue bus route. The fleet of at least 20 new fully electric buses will reduce emissions as well as fuel and maintenance costs for CTA, by replacing the diesel buses that are currently in service.
The en-route chargers will be constructed at each terminus of the bus route (Navy Pier and Chicago/Austin) as well as at CTA's Chicago Avenue bus garage. These chargers will provide for fast charging, bringing a bus to full charge in about 10 minutes.
